Website Organiser/Author - Dr Justin Varney
What to say about me? Well firstly I'm an out gay man so much of what you've read on the website comes from my own ponderings and experiences and also the conversations and questions I've answered over the years from friends, aquaintances and the guys down the pub. I'm single and I live in Peckham in SE London. Workwise I'm a public health doctor working in London.
Before moving into public health I did a stint in general practice, paediatrics, family planning, obstetric and gynaecology and accident and emergancy medicine. In my current job I have a broad spectrum of work across things like crime and health, european policy, pandemic planning, local area agreements and a few other bits and pieces I poke my nose into. I have been the Public Health Advisor to the Crisis Open Christmas for the last year and the health of the homelessness is another major interest.
On the LGBT front, I have been on the executive of the Gay & Lesbian Association of Doctors and Dentists for a few years now and take the lead on external liasion. I have been part of the Sexual Orientation Special Interest Group at NIMHE and now form part of the National Steering Group on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity for the Department of Health. Basically if it's about LGBT health I try to stick my oar in somewhere! The website is self-funded and I update it after work, usually in the middle of the night, so please excuse the typos and I hope you enjoy it! Jx
